An HSV Maloo has been awarded a prize in New Zealand's Energywise rally held in late November between Auckland and Wellington.

The Maloo was awarded the 'Driver Award', for the team that beat the manufacturer-stated fuel use of their vehicle by the highest percentage.

The 'Trade Me' team reduced their fuel consumption by 39.5%, achieving 9.497 litres per 100km instead of the ADR claimed fuel consumption figure of 15.7 litres per 100km.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of the nomination of the HSV W427 for News Ltd's Carsguide 'Best Green Car for 2008'.

News Ltd's National Motoring Editor Paul Gover reasoned that many W427 owners were planning to warehouse their purchase as a collector's item.

`Just about all of them are going to be locked up in garages. That's pretty green," he said.
