The very last W427 to be built by Holden Special Vehicles was made to order at HSV’s Clayton production facility late last week, bringing to a close one of the proudest of achievements of the luxury and performance car manufacturer.

HSV’s most ambitious project has been a long time in the making with an earlier concept, the HRT 427, first being unveiled back in 2002.

The economics of the early attempt to produce a performance car powered by a seven litre, 427 cubic inch capacity engine meant the project did not move beyond a build run of just two, with one on display in the foyer of Holden and the other recently changing hands courtesy of a Far North Queensland developer for upwards of seven figures.

Retailing for A$155,500, the W427 received rave reviews from local media when it was launched in July 2008 and even featured on Japanese Public Broadcasting’s TV news service. Just 137 W427s were built.
